The Old Canal Smoke House sits on the bank of the Ohio and Erie Canal that ran throughout Ohio from Cleveland to Portsmouth. The arrival of the canal gave a boost to agriculture in Ross County by provising farmers an inexpensive way to ship their grain to markets. The canal also attracted settlers to our area and was a major influence on the growth of Chillicothe and Ross County. The word Chillicothe comes from the Shawnee Indian word meaning "principal town".
The Old Canal Smoke House was founded in 2004 and is now owned by Bill and Tammy Barker. The Old Canal Smoke House offers the areas finest food with specialties such as smoked prime rib, pork, brisket, fish and chicken.
